3.
DESCRIPTION OF PROBLEM OR FUNCTION - DWUCK calculates the scattering differential cross section. The incoming and outgoing waves may be in any combination of spin 0, 1/2 or 1 particles.
4.
METHOD OF SOLUTION - For DWUCK-4 the general form of the distorted wave Born approximation (DWBA) is used. The spin dependent parts of the optical potentials for the distorted waves must be diagonal in the total and orbital angular momentum. The calculations are per- formed in a zero range form between the coordinates of the incoming and outgoing waves. The particle transfer reactions can be treated with a local energy approximation for the finite range effects.
5.
RESTRICTIONS ON THE COMPLEXITY OF THE PROBLEM - Reactions such as heavy particle stripping and knock-on reactions cannot be calculated with DWUCK-4 since the finite range effects are important. For finite range effects DWUCK-5 should be used which has a limit of 200 partial waves, 400 integration steps and 40 expansion coefficients for each distorted wave.
6.
TYPICAL RUNNING TIME - The two test problems: (1) Ca40(d,p)Ca41 at 13.7 MeV; and (2) Zr91(d,He3)Y90 at 28.0 MeV require 2.2 seconds on a CDC 7600.
7.
UNUSUAL FEATURES OF THE PROGRAM - Both non-relativistic and rela- tivistic kinematics is available.
8.
RELATED AND AUXILIARY PROGRAMS - CHUCK a coupled channel code. 9.

DWUCK-4/IPNE: The changes made in IPNE-Bucharest concern a) the possibility to use energy-dependent optical potential parameter sets, which include also volume integrals of the real and imaginary potentials, and b) the calculation of renormalized DWBA cross sections by means of deformation parameters (BETA2) determined for best agreement with the experimental data, including c) the sum of the cross section corresponding to a number of excited states in the residual nucleus, and of its ratio to the total reaction cross section.
DWUCK-5 is the finite range version of DWUCK-4. The full finite range is calculated with the momentum expansion technique due to Lowell Charlton.
Number of partial waves less or equal to 50.
Number of intrinsic channels (including elastic) less than or equal to 8.

The program DWUCK-4 was installed and run on a PC-Brett with a Pentium processor of 75 MHz, base memory of 640 Kbyte and extended memory of 16 Mbyte. The filesize of the executable program is 148 Kbyte, the diskspace occupied by the source files is 326 Kbyte; less than 1 MByte of diskspace is required to store all the package files.

The program DWUCK-4 was installed and run on a PC-Brett with a Pentium processor of 75 MHz, running MS-DOS 6.2. The source files were compiled using the Microsoft FORTRAN compiler (Version 5.0) and linked using the Microsoft linker (Version 5.15). The utility NMAKE (Microsoft Program Maintenance Utility, Version 1.13) is used to compile the source files, link the corresponding object files and create the executable of program DWUCK-4.
